Mezquita
Successively a Roman temple, Visigothic church, Mosque (=Mezquita, from the 8th century) and Catholic Cathedral (from the 13th century). In the 8th century temporarily partly Muslim and partly Catholic. The double arches come from the Muslims. Now both Christian and Moorish elements (such as a house of prayer). An important source of inspiration for the Dutch graphic artist Esscher. See his repetitive patterns, which are related to the Arabic repetitive geometric figures.
Anyone who has ever visited the Mezquita will recognize this immediately.
